Frequently Asked Questions

1. Is your program licensed by the State?

Yes, I am licensed through the state of Colorado as a Family Child Care Provider. I have completed all licensing requirements, including the specialized training and annual home inspections.

2. Do you require parents to sign a contract?

We do have a written agreement that makes it so you and I know exactly what to expect from one another. Your child may leave our program at any time without being charged a fee, although a two week notice is requested. I also have a Policies and Procedures Handbook that will help answer many of the questions you may have in regards to the way our preschool is run.

3. What can I expect as far as communication from you?

Each day you will receive a special note and photo from me via the Bloomz app or text message. I send monthly Grow and Grow Reports that describe areas where your child has shown growth, an area that we will strive to work on moving forward as well as resources and/or ideas to help support them at home. I also send monthly activity reports. These reports highlight the activities that your child will take part in. I will always make time to talk with you about your child and I view this as an integral part of my role as a teacher.

4. What age range do you provide care for? What is the teacher to child ratio?

Children ages 3 through 5 can be accepted into our preschool program.

5.  What is the teacher to child ratio?

The teacher to child ratio is 1:8 at most. My school age children may be in the home during school breaks.

6. What guidance strategies do you use for challenging behavior?

It is my belief that children are more likely to make good choices if we promote positive behavior as opposed to dwelling on negative actions. I use every opportunity to teach children how to use their words, describe their feelings and generally express themselves in respectful ways. I also redirect children to more positive behaviors and am sure to praise them when they are behaving in ways that are kind, caring and helpful. Sometimes, children need to have “some space.” In this case, I will ask that they go relax on the couch or in another comfortable spot in order to regain a sense of calm before rejoining the group. This brief separation from the group will last only a few minutes. The use of physical punishment is NEVER allowed.

7. What days are you closed? We are closed on major holidays. If the holiday does not fall on a school day, we may take an extra day or two off either before of after the holiday. We have a winter, spring, Thanksgiving, and summer break. Summer break is two weeks long and winter, spring and Thanksgiving breaks are one week long. Most parents find our scheduled breaks to be reasonable and easy to work with.

8. What kind of experience and education do you have?

I have been working with children from birth-age 5 since 2002 and specifically as a preschool teacher with Room to Bloom since 2013.

9. Do you have an open door policy?

We most certainly do have an open door policy and invite you to come visit your child at any time of the day. I do ask that you allow your child 2-3 weeks of classes before visiting them just so that they can learn to navigate the new environment independently.

10. Do you go on field trips?

We generally do not go on field trips, but may occasionally visit the library and neighborhood playground by walking.

11. Is your preschool located in a home setting?

Our engaging, open and inviting classroom is within a home and it is used exclusively for the preschool. You may learn more about the many benefits of a home-based preschool program by clicking here.

12. Does my child need to be potty trained to begin preschool?

  • To make the preschool transition smoother for everyone and to allow me to be available to students for more time during the day, it is best that children are potty trained (or close to being potty trained) when they begin preschool.

  • If your little one is consistently having accidents at school, I may request that they wear a pull-up, training pants or a diaper (whichever you prefer). This is just so that we can make good use of the limited class time we have without spending so much time cleaning up accidents and changing clothing.

13. My child has a slow-to-warm-up temperament. How would you handle the adjustment period for my child?

It can take up to two weeks for a child to begin to feel safe and secure within their new environment and even longer for some children. It is my goal to help with this oftentimes challenging transition by being patient, understanding and accepting of your child. I will never force them into doing something that they are uncomfortable with and I will make every effort to ensure that they feel loved and appreciated while in my care!
